If Britain wants a comprehensive deal, the EU wants some sort of regulatory convergence. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said the TTIP negotiations were not dead, contrary to what some politicians in Germany and France have said, but that they had to wait for the resumption of the next US president, who will take office in January. The Prime Minister also mentioned that he had reached an agreement similar with the EU to that of Australia. Johnson has repeatedly stressed that he is looking for a “Super Canada plus” deal with the EU rather than a closer economic partnership. “When they say Canada, they don`t literally mean Canada. They represent an equal balance between access and engagement,” said Sam Lowe, a senior researcher at the Centre for European Reform.
